The 1973 Monte-Carlo Rally promises a battle between the Alpine armada, 5 Berlinettes strong, and Ford, which lines up the MIKKOLA – MAKINEN duo at the wheel of formidable Escorts powered by the Brian Hart aluminum block engine with four valves per cylinder and which develops more than 220 hp. MIKKOLA takes the lead from the first special but will have to give way to ANDRUET who will end up winning after a tight fight with the other Alpines. At the start of the last special, they were indeed grouped in 22 seconds. MIKKOLA will prevent the hegemony of the Dieppe cars by finishing 4th.
