BACK TO THE ROOTS

In 2016, Slowly Sideways France created the Event: Group B cars, those legendary vehicles that had disappeared from the roads 30 years ago, were back.

Alongside them were all the iconic cars that had made rallying history. For the first time in France, they were on display for the amazed spectators, some of whom weren't even born when they raced in the World Rally Championship. The Vosges Rally Festival was born. After two editions in La Bresse, followed by a foray into Alsace, the Festival will return on 1st, 2nd and 3rd October 2026 to its original home, the Vosges.

THE ALSACE RALLYE FESTIVAL 2025 WILL NOT TAKE PLACE

After six months of work, contacts, research, agreements, and reversals, at the end of May, the sky fell once again on the heads of the Alsace Rallye Festival organizing committee:

The City of Niederbronn-Les-Bains, which had planned to host us by offering us a new date for the end of October, informed us that the venue that was to serve as our HQ would ultimately not be available because it had already been previously reserved for another purpose. This reservation had slipped under the radar...

ALSACE RALLYE FESTIVAL IS BACK

For its sixth edition, the Alsace Rallye Festival is heading to northern Alsace.

A region which saw the birth of our nine-time world champion, Sébastien Loeb. But Northern Alsace is also one of the birthplaces of the automobile. From the end of the 19th century, Eugène de Dietrich manufactured motor cars in his Reichshoffen factory, with a young engineer named Ettore Bugatti on his team.

MICHELE MOUTON INAUGURATE THE EXHIBITION "LES LEGENDES DU RALLYE"

On Monday evening, the Musée National de l'Automobile de Mulhouse - Collection Schlumpf inaugurated the exhibition entitled “Rally Legends”. Organized in collaboration with Slowly Sideways France, the exhibition brings together 22 cars that have written the history of rallying.

Guillaume Gasser, general manager of the museum, and Jacky Jung, president of Slowly Sideways France, welcomed Michèle Mouton, who agreed to be the event's godmother. After sharing her memories with the public, she and Cathy Muller cut the inaugural ribbon.

The assembly discovered than a condensed version of half a century of World Championship racing. The Peugeot 404 of the Safari Rally is the oldest of this exhibition, which takes visitors right up to the C4 WRC that enabled Sébastien Loeb to win the title on home soil on the Rallye de France - Alsace 2010. In between, there are many nuggets to discover, such as the Opel Ascona with which Walter Röhrl won the 1975 Acropolis Rally. This car, the first Opel to win a world championship event, remained in Greece and was found years later by a German collector. A little further on,

For the first time, the Rally Legends will be brought together in the same space. And what better setting than the most beautiful automobile museum in the world to relive 50 years of rallies?

STIG BLOMQVIST MAITRE A GLISSER DES FORD SIERRA

Sur un total de 39 podiums en 32 ans de carrière en WRC, le champion du monde 1984 sur Audi Quattro en a récolté trois sur Ford Sierra RS Cosworth en 1987 et 1988. Artiste de la glisse, le septuple vainqueur du rallye de Suède mènera le bal des Sierra ce week-end dans le vignoble alsacien.

Il y reprendra le volant de la Cosworth RS 500, qu’il accomplit l’exploit de « propulser » à la seconde place du RAC rallye 1987 parmi les Lancia Delta HF Integrale de Kankkunen, Alen et Eriksson, et qui promet d’être des plus spectaculaires entre les mains expertes d’un pilote « tous terrains » ayant brillé aussi en rallyecross, courses de côte et circuit.

A cause de sa transmission aux roues arrière, la Ford Sierra Cosworth garde une place à part dans le cœur des nostalgiques, qui pourront aussi admirer celle de Philippe Camandona, victorieuse en 1990 du championnat suisse des rallyes, ainsi que celle du Français Dominique Sibieude.

Quant à la Ford Sierra XR 4 de l’Allemand Peter Lerch, c’est un modèle original à moteur V6 2,3 L poussé à 300 CV. Développée en 1984 spécialement pour disputer le championnat d’Allemagne, elle resta à l’état de prototype suite à l’apparition de la version Cosworth.

BRUNO THIRY, LE SEIGNEUR DES ANNEAUX

Le triple champion de Belgique et champion d’Europe des rallyes en 2003 ravira les spectateurs au volant d’une Audi Quattro Sport, la reine du WRC avec 23 victoires, dont pas moins de huit répliques, de la gagnante du RAC en 1981 avec Mikkola à celle de Pikes Peak en 1987 avec Röhrl, sont attendues au pays des Bugatti à partir de jeudi 24 août.

Né en 1962, Bruno Thiry commençait alors à se faire remarquer dans les Ardennes au volant d’une Saab 99 puis d’une Opel Kadett avant de remporter deux fois le trophée Citroën et d’être sacré espoir belge en 1988. Dès l’année suivante a débuté son parcours de 72 rallyes en WRC marqué jusqu’en 2003 par 39 temps scratch en spéciales, 5 podiums et un titre européen au volant d’Opel Kadett, Ford Escort Cosworth, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Corolla, Citroën Xsara, Skoda Octavia et Peugeot 206 WRC.

Depuis 2005, il a continué à piloter par plaisir, assurant le rôle d’ouvreur pour Thierry Neuville en WRC, et disputant régulièrement le rallye du Condroz (2^ème en 2006 sur 307 WRC) et le Legend Boucles de Spa (victoire en 2010 sur Audi Quattro). Une voiture aux commandes de laquelle il retrouvera vite ses marques sur les routes alsaciennes.
