Reinhold Fricker, a Mercedes dealer based in Ulm, was the specialist when it came to rallying the Mercedes 190E 2.3 16. In 1985, Fricker built his first 190E rally car which was registered as UL-PP 1 and gave it to Holger Bohne to drive. Bohne entered several rallies in Germany with it and his best result was the Rallye Deutschland where he finished fourth overall and first in the Group A category. He was beaten only by three Group B supercars.
Adolf Ahrens used to be the co-driver of Holger Bohne from 1980 to 1984 in various cars ranging from Mercedes to Ford Escorts and even Ferraris. Afterwards, Ahrens was involved in the rally programmes of Volkswagen, Holzer and Dieter Depping. Today, he owns two Opel rally cars but in 2018 he and Werner Blank came up with the idea of copying one of the cars of his former driver: a Mercedes 190E 2.3 16 as it was driven by Bohne in 1985. Bohne’s original car from that season is not existing anymore.
